SPRINGFIELD, IL — In celebration of a milestone accomplishment, Wooden It Be Lovely (WIBL) will host Community Celebrations and Tours of a home that will be a safe and loving sanctuary for women who are recovering and healing from addiction, poverty and/or abuse. The events will be held Friday, June 3, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.; Saturday, June 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; and Sunday, June 5, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The “Be Lovely Home” is located at 801 South Grand Avenue West in Springfield.
The home was designed by women currently in the Wooden It Be Lovely Transitional Employment Program. Over the past months, these women have transformed the home into a work of art with freshly painted walls, colorful refurbished furniture, new curtains, decorative pillows and beautiful wall hangings. When ready, the women living in the home will be eligible for the Transitional Employment Program to prepare them for independent living.
“The opening of our residential housing program is a dream come true,” said Margaret Ann Jessup, founder and executive director of Wooden It Be Lovely. “We are so grateful to the many donors and volunteers who support our mission of providing hope and employment to women healing from poverty, addiction and abuse. We look forward to sharing our vision with the community at these events.”
During the celebrations, Wooden It Be Lovely will have hand-painted flower pots, celebration t-shirts and other special items for sale. The cost of the tour is $10 per person. The cost of the tour along with a Be Lovely t-shirt is $33 per person. All proceeds benefit Wooden It Be Lovely.
