The Springfield Area Arts Council (SAAC) is thrilled to announce the launch of its fiscal year 2024 City Arts competitive grant program, aimed at supporting individual performing, literary, and visual artists within the Springfield community. This initiative provides artists with the opportunity to apply for funding to support projects in a number of categories, fostering creativity and innovation within our community.

Grants awarded through the City Arts program will provide each recipient with $3,000 in funding. Projects must take place within the city limits of Springfield, and applicants are required to have a Springfield address. Projects must be completed between May 10 and November 10, 2024, and must benefit the community.

Applications open on Friday, March 1, 2024, and must be submitted online before 11:59 P.M. CT, on Monday, April 1, 2024, to be considered for funding.

Detailed guidelines and applications for the City Arts grant program may be found online at SAAC’s website. The funding for this program is made possible through the generous support of the City of Springfield. For accommodation or alternative formats, individuals may contact SAAC directly.

This year, the City Arts grant program has undergone restructuring to allocate additional funding to individual artists, reflecting SAAC’s commitment to supporting and empowering local creatives. As a result of this restructuring, SAAC will award larger grants to three different Springfield artists who are dedicated to enhancing the cultural vitality of Springfield through their artistic contributions. This initiative comes at a critical time for artists, many of whom have faced unprecedented challenges due to the ongoing global pandemic and rising inflation.

The Springfield Area Arts Council has a rich history in the Springfield community and beyond. Serving both Sangamon and Menard counties, SAAC enhances the quality of life in its geographic focus area through its programs and events throughout the year.
