The Springfield Youth Performance Group Foundation (SYPG), an organization spotlighting young talent from the Springfield area, is excited to announce auditions on Friday, July 22 for Peter & The Wolf at the Grant Conservatory of Music and Dance, 501 West Elliott Avenue, Springfield.
The performance is a symphonic fairy tale for children with a musical composition written by Sergei Prokofliev in 1936. The narrator tells a children’s story, while the orchestra illustrates it by using different instruments to play a “theme” that represents each character in the story. This classic children’s ballet will be featured in the performances of the Art in Motion show on September 10 at The Grant Conservatory of Music & Dance.
Registration will take place from 5:30-6:00pm, with auditions from 6:00-7:00pm. Dance auditions are open to children ages 5-14 and numerous parts are available for both boys and girls. All participants must arrive by the close of registration and must be accompanied by an adult. Audition packets may be requested by emailing sypg@sypgfoundation.org.
Performers should be dressed appropriately for auditions. For girls, please wear a leotard, tights and ballet shoes with hair in a bun (if possible). For boys, please wear a t-shirt, athletic pants/shorts and ballet or jazz shoes.
All rehearsals will be held on Saturdays beginning August 6th from 2:00-4:00pm at The Grant Conservatory of Music & Dance. Rehearsals will be led by Taryn Grant, Director of Community Engagement, and Elizabeth Cheney, Artistic Coordinator, . There will be a $75 participation fee per performer.
