Since 2014 the Springfield Art Association has held a national juried show featuring the best in contemporary ceramics. This biennial exhibition (with a minor hiccup during COVID) explores contemporary ceramics, from functional vessels to extraordinary sculpture, and everything in between. We have fifty-two works by forty-one different artists from across the United States on display. The exhibition is now open and will run through April 26th. The reception and awards ceremony will be Friday, April 11th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The gallery and reception are free and open to the public. The M. G. Nelson Family Gallery, on the campus of the Springfield Art Association at 700 North 4th Street, is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM and 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays. The SAA is closed on Sunday.
The works in Shapes of Influence were chosen by this year’s judge Ellen Kleckner. Ms. Kleckner is a ceramicist from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was the top award winner in the 2023 Shapes of Influence exhibition and currently has a solo exhibition of her work in the Visual Arts Gallery on the campus of University of Illinois, Springfield. That show, Between Horizons, will run through April 10th with a closing reception on that date from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
