Debra Ross Coe, State Regent Illinois State Organization National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (Illinois DAR) has announced the visit of Denise Doring VanBuren, President General National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to Springfield, Illinois on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
During Mrs. VanBuren’s visit to Springfield, she will meet with Illinois DAR officers and members, visit the historic sites and inspire members to serve the Society’s mission of service to the community. The objectives of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) are Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism. DAR is a service organization of women who have documented direct lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution.
The organization promotes historic preservation through marking locations of historical significance, historical essay contests for students, and preservation of historic documents and objects. Education activities include support of NSDAR Schools, classroom projects and college scholarships. Patriotic service includes education of correct use of and respect for the Flag of the United States of America, participation in naturalization ceremonies, service to Veterans and support of active military.
Mrs. VanBuren oversees NSDAR in the United States and 13 worldwide countries with headquarters in Washington, D.C. There are approximately 185,000 members in the United States and abroad with about 3,000 chapters. Illinois is fortunate to have 103 chapters with more than 7,800 members. There are multiple active chapters in the Central Illinois area.
