The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois (BGCCIL) will be hosting two newly scheduled food distributions facilitated by local businesses, Subway and Aztca Mexican Grill.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, two local Subway stores will be donating a total of 400 boxed lunches with a cold cut sandwich, chips, and a cookie. The distribution will take place at the BGCCIL Central Unit located at 300 S. 15th St., Springfield at 11:00 a.m. The meals will be handed out in drive-thru, contactless fashion in the North Parking lot.
This will be followed up on Monday, Jan. 25 at 11:30 a.m. with a distribution of 200 boxed meals provided by Aztca Mexican Grill. Like the aforementioned event, this will take place as a drive-thru at the BGCCIL Central Unit north parking lot.
“We have been hosting regular food giveaways since early May,” said BGCCIL CEO Tiffany Mathis. “Anytime we get the opportunity to assist in the battle against food insufficiencies and instability, we happily jump on board. We are here to do whatever it takes to keep our members, their families, and community-at-large feeling supported and strong.”
“We grateful to be able to give back to the community in this time of need,” said Subway owner, Randy Lucas, who has stores located at 630 North Grand Avenue and 1295 Toronto Road, respectively. “We hope many will stop by the Boys and Girls Club Saturday to receive a free box lunch.”
Aztca owner Nico Paz shared a similar sentiment, “With a new year comes new challenges,” he stated. ”Aztca wants to continue showing support to our community and organizations by helping with our monthly food donations. We thank the community and groups like BGCCIL for their constant support and partnership.”
