The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois (BGCCIL) and the Springfield Police Department (SPD) have partnered to host a Snack Food Drive to collect donations for the BGCCIL Summer Camp program. The event will be held Saturday, June 4 at the BGCCIL Central Unit at 300 S. 15th Street in Springfield from 10:00 am-noon.

This day has been designated for community business partners and local residents to dive-thru and drop off donations for use in sustaining the Club members attending the eight-week BGCCIL Summer Camp.

“Many Club members rely on our Summer Session programming and meals to get through the months school is not in session,” said BGCCIL CEO Tiffany Mathis. “As we have doubled the size of our program in the last two years, we are looking for the community to help us supplement the food program for the Summer Camp attendees.”

“The Springfield Police Department is excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Club Girls for the Summer Snack Drive so campers can focus on having fun and not on hunger,” neighborhood Police officer and Club friend Ryan Binkley stated. “This is made possible through the generosity of our community. “

The Snack Drive is just one of many events the SPD is supporting for the BGCCIL and its members.

“The Springfield Police Department remains committed to the youth of our community through fostering relationships as mentors and beyond in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club,” said Police Chief Ken Scarlette. “With the generous food donations from the citizens of Springfield we can ensure that tomorrow’s leaders are well prepared.”
