The Springfield Art Association (SAA), in partnership with the Baima Family, is proud to announce a second round of glassblowing field trips for 14 schools and organizations in the Springfield area. The SAA will offer free glassblowing workshops and demos to these schools and organizations via a generous sponsorship from the Baima Family.
Two options are available for the schools and organizations to choose from. The first option is a glassblowing demo, accommodating up to 30 students. The 2-hour demo will provide a unique opportunity for the students to watch the glassblowing process. The second option is a hands-on glass flower workshop, accommodating up to eight students (ages 14 and older). The workshop will allow students to create glass flowers under the guidance of a skilled glassblower.
The first round of field trips was a huge success, with nine schools and organizations participating, including Glenwood High School, Springfield Learning Academy, Lincoln Magnet School, Pawnee High School, Sugar Creek Pioneers 4-H, Springfield High School Art Club, Dubois Elementary Art Club, Lutheran High School, and Sangamon County Learning Academy. A total of 228 students were able to experience the art of glassblowing firsthand.
Registration for the second round of field trips is now open. Workshops and demos will be scheduled between February and May 2024, and reservations will be granted in the order in which they were received.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Baima Family to offer this unique and exciting opportunity to a second round of students in the Springfield area,” said Erin Svendsen, SAA Education Director. “We hope this experience will inspire and encourage the students to explore their creativity and pursue their artistic passions.”
