Auditions Feb. 4 and 5 at LLCC for “Red Sails: Jeanne de Clisson the Female Pirate”

 Lincoln Land Community College Theatre in collaboration with Cutlass Artists will hold auditions for “Red Sails: Jeanne de Clisson the Female Pirate” on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 4 and 5, from 7-9 p.m. in Sangamon Hall South, Room 0015 on the LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.

This new devised production about the famous female pirate will be directed by Mark Hardiman, LLCC professor of theatre, and run May 2-5 at 8 p.m. in the lower level ofSangamon Hall South. A devised production is one created by the actors, director and others in rehearsal. The text can reflect on the historical facts or even the present-day experiences of people in the show.

“This unique opportunity helps actors learn to develop their own content. This production will feature movement, voice, sound and stage combat as this famous woman pirate thinks about the meaning of revenge and loss.” Hardiman says. “The performance will be developed and honed, incorporating the work of actors to refine the text into a nonrealistic performance that includes flashbacks of Clisson as she reflects on her life as a pirate.”

College students and community members are encouraged to audition. The cast is comprised of young men and women and two teenagers. All roles are open in this production. The production may employ cross-gender casting for many roles. Auditions will include improvisation based upon themes and ideas as well as movement exercises. Those interested in being involved with backstage duties, in stage management or as assistant to the director should drop by auditions for a brief conference with the director.
