The Animal Protective League (APL) will hold several pet adoptions during October with cats and dogs available at various locations. All animals presented by APL for have been spayed or neutered, microchipped and have received all vaccinations by the time of their adoption.

Adoptions will be held:

  • Saturday, October 6–Cats and dogs will be available in APL’s Mobile Pet Adoption Center from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Petco, 2721 S. Veterans Parkway, Springfield; cats will be available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon to 3 p.m. at PetSmart, 3183 South Veterans Parkway, Springfield.
  • Sunday, October 7– Cats and dogs will be available in APL’s Mobile Pet Adoption Center from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Get Your Licks on Route 66 tour stop at Scheels,3801 S. MacArthur, Springfield; Cats will be available from noon until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon to 3 p.m. at PetSmart.
  • Saturday, October 13 – Cats will be available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon to 3 p.m. at PetSmart.
  • Sunday October 14 – Cats will be available from noon until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon to 3 p.m. at PetSmart.
  • Saturday, October 20 – Cats will available from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Lucky Tom Cats and Tiger’s Lair Cat Show at the Illinois building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds, 801 E. Sangamon Ave., Springfield; cats will be available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon to 3 p.m. at PetSmart.
  • Sunday, October 21 – Cats will available from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Lucky Tom Cats and Tiger’s Lair Cat Show at the Illinois building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds; cats will be available from noon until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon to 3 p.m. at PetSmart.
  • Saturday, October 27– Cats will be available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon to 3 p.m. at PetSmart.
  • Sunday, October 28–  – Cats and dogs will be available in APL’s Mobile Pet Adoption Center from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m at APL’s Annual Chili Supper held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 200 Meadowbrook Rd., Springfield ;cats will be available from noon until 4 p.m. and dogs will be available from noon until 3 p.m. at PetSmart. 

Dogs and cats are available for adoption daily from noon until 5 p.m. at the shelter located at 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield. 

APL, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting ill, injured and abandoned homeless animals, runs an animal shelter which is open every day from noon to 5 p.m. for adoptions. APL also coordinates cruelty investigations and humane education programs. APL also operates a low cost spay/neuter clinic adjacent to its Springfield shelter.
