Roland Folse, Rick Taylor, and Gene Tanta are featured in the exhibition, ALIVE to Interpretation at the SAA Collective. The exhibition runs from Friday, January 17 through Saturday, March 5 in the H. D. Smith Gallery on the first floor of the Hoogland Center for the Arts. The reception will be held on Friday, January 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with artist’s talks at 5:45 PM. This is free and open to the public.

Rick Taylor has been a member of the SAA Collective since he moved to the area from Chicago. His paintings are explorations of color, form and line. He works in the transition between Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism and follows in the footsteps of artists like Miro, Matta and Gorky.

Gene Tanta is a relatively new artist to The Collective. His background is primarily in poetry. He returned to visual art three years ago. In his paintings he attempts to understand memories overwritten by forgetfulness or mediation. Drawing with paint and painting with words, color, erasure, he explores the give between his unconscious heart and mind.

Roland Folse is a recognized figure in the art community for his work with Bonsai, painting, photography, ceramics, and woodworking.  In this exhibition he features eight new one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture along with dozens of new ceramic vessels and platters in both Crystalline and Shino glazes. His craftsmanship and creativity with interesting hardwoods generates unique, high quality furnishings that are works of art.

The combination of the works by these three artists is visually striking and engaging. These artists have not shown together before, but particularly the paintings by Taylor and Tanta generate an intriguing visual dialogue.
The gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 AM to 5 PM, Thursday through Saturday from Noon to 7 PM.
The Hoogland Center for the Arts is located at 420 South 6th Street in Springfield.
