Marke Freeman, a 2006 Lanphier High School graduate who made history as one of Springfield’s first female professional basketball players—and possibly the only woman from the city to compete internationally.
Marke became Lanphier’s all-time leading scorer with 1,845 career points and set the Central State Eight Conference’s highest-ever scoring average at 25.9 points per game. She went on to excel at Florida A&M and Northern Illinois University, where she earned multiple All-Mid-American Conference honors.
Her professional journey took her to Poland and she later became a coach at Washington University, helping the Bears reach the NCAA Division III Elite Eight in 2019. Now, she’s helping athletes grow through Point Guard College and the Max-OUT Foundation.
