Cultural exhibits, food, entertainment; free event open to public
Lincoln Land Community College invites the public to its 20th annual Multicultural Fest Wednesday, Oct. 9. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Rd. LLCC Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, Litchfield and Taylorville will also host celebrations. The events are free and open to the public.
The annual Multicultural Fest showcases various cultures through food, entertainment and exhibits.
On the Springfield campus, local food trucks are offering free samples at the event. Restaurants serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. include Azteca, B & W and Gyros Stop.
Entertainment will be provided by DJ Yinka, Tebe Zalango (spoken word), Tom Irwin (music) and student performers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Expressions Body Art & Design will offer henna body art from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m.
College and community partners with exhibits include LLCC Logger Activities Board, LLCC Adult Education, Springfield Baha’i Faith, Garvey Tubman Cultural Arts and Research Center, the Immigration Project, Illinois Migrant Council, Springfield Lincoln Library, Lithuanian American Club of Central IL, Islamic Society of Greater Springfield, Springfield Center for Independent Living, Unity of Springfield and the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois.
LLCC-Jacksonville, 32 N. Central Park Plaza, will provide food from local restaurants, trivia and displays from English language learning students from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. LLCC-Litchfield, 1 Lincoln Land Dr., will feature food from local restaurants and a variety of coffee from different countries from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 9. LLCC-Taylorville, 800 S. Spresser, will showcase snacks from around the world and grab-and-go activities from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 9.
