The Young Philanthropists giving circle at the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln has announced Compass for Kids as the recipient of its 16th annual Future Fund grant award. The $12,500 grant will support Club Compass – a school-year program that serves approximately 125 low-income elementary students in Springfield Public Schools – District #186 through academic and social-emotional supports that help close achievement gaps. In addition, the grant will support the Backpack Feeding Program that provides non-perishable food for students over the weekend.
“Through ongoing, annual membership contributions, Young Philanthropists has established the Future Fund as a permanent grantmaking resource to support programs for children in Sangamon County,” said Stacy Reed, vice president of programs and marketing for the Community Foundation. “We are so pleased to be able to support Compass for Kids this year and its programming that helps students improve their academic performance and cultivate important life skills.”
Launched in 2006, Young Philanthropists invigorates community leaders to join together to be philanthropists and learn more about themselves as donors. By leveraging annual contributions of $125 per person, Young Philanthropists members have steadily built an endowment called the Future Fund at the Community Foundation to support charities that serve local children.
Nonprofit organizations that serve Sangamon County were invited to submit grant proposals in the fall of 2021 for the Future Fund grant. Applications that spoke to the recommendations from the Sangamon Success report were given special consideration. Organizations are encouraged to visit the Community Foundation’s web site at CFLL.org to sign up to receive grant alerts when funding opportunities become available.
Through philanthropic services, strategic grantmaking and community leadership, the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln “connects people who care with causes that matter.”
